Residents have been able to return to their homes in Brighton after a gas leak at a block of flats was contained.

At 10.11 BST on Thursday, East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service (ESFRS) were called to Ashton Rise amid reports of a gas leak.

One person was handed into the care of the ambulance service, ESFRS said.

Dan Brown, a spokesperson for Southern Gas Networks which also attended the incident, said: "We gained access to this property and found a gas hob had been left on unlit.

"As a result, the flats were evacuated as a precaution, and the property was ventilated. Once it was safe to do so, evacuated residents were allowed to reoccupy their homes."
